This is the basic outline for our 8 week program. Keep in mind, each participant's experience will be unique, so the program will adapt as needed. We encourage an open communication throughout the 8 week program and welcome feedback from participants to help improve.

Session Focus: Building trust with horses and understanding safety protocols
Groundwork: Introduce participants to the horses and teach basic grooming and handling techniques.
Safety Rules: Discuss safety guidelines around horses.
Group Discussion: Share expectations and goals for the program.
Session Focus: Developing awareness and presence
Mindful Grooming: Participants groom horses mindfully, paying attention to sensations and emotions.
Leading exercises: Practice leading horses, focusing on communication and connection.
Reflection: Discuss how mindfulness relates to PTSD management.
Session Focus: Understanding emotions and coping strategies.
Mounted riding: Introduce participants to riding basics, such as walking and halting.
Emotional Check-in: Discuss emotions during and after riding.
Breathing Techniques: Teach grounding exercises.
Session Focus: Setting boundaries and building trust
Obstacle course: Simple obstacle course to practice boundaries.
Trust-building exercises: Explore trust-building activities with horses.
Group sharing: Discuss personal boundaries and trust issues.
Session Focus: Reflecting on progress and future steps.
Group Ride: Ride together, celebrating progress.
Individual Reflection: Participants share insights and future intentions.
Graduation Ceremony: Certificates and acknowledgements.
Session Focus: Cultivating self-compassion
Groundwork with Obstacles: Work with horses through obstacles as a metaphor for life challenges.
Self Reflection: Discuss self-acceptance and self-compassion.
Creative Expression: Art or writing related to self-compassion.
Session Focus: Building resilience
Challenging Riding Exercises: Introduce trotting or cantering (if appropriate).
Resilience Stories: Share stories of overcoming adversity.
Goal setting: Set personal growth goals.
Session Focus: Identifying healthy coping mechanisms
Trail Ride: Short trail ride to experience nature and practice coping skills.
Journaling: Reflect on emotions during the ride.
Group Discussion: Share coping strategies.
